"This model portrays Jhulelal (Uderolal), patron deity of the Sindhi people and incarnation of Varuna, seated cross-legged on a blooming lotus that rides a great palla fish of the Indus. An elderly, benevolent face with white beard, jeweled crown, and sun halo conveys kingship over the river; he holds a pothi (scripture) before his heart, rendered in a bright folk palette.

In Sindhi tradition Jhulelal—Sindhu Darya Shah, “Lord of the Indus”—arose as divine protector and guide, assuring safe passage and just rule."
